Open Door Health Services received a newborn screening that was positive for cystic fibrosis. The infant needed to be rescreened, but the test can only be performed by Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis. The pediatric nurse contacted the infant’s mom, Nancy, to schedule the test.

The day after the appointment was scheduled, the nurse followed up with Nancy only to find out she hadn’t made it to the appointment. Nancy explained that she did not have the proper transportation to take her and her child to Indianapolis.

Thanks to United Way support and funding from donors like you, the nurse worked with the patient’s insurance company to schedule free transportation and rescheduled the appointment.
