Day of Giving - December 13, 2018

United Way needs your help to make lasting change in our community. Today, 47% of Delaware County households live in poverty or are struggling to make ends meet. Most of those families are working hard—sometimes at two or three jobs—yet are barely able to meet their basic household budget and live one crisis away from sliding into poverty. With your help, their lives and futures can change.

We are trying to raise $47K to help those 47% of Delaware County residents- and break the cycle of generational poverty forever. We are laser focused on putting children on a pathway out of poverty by making sure third graders are reading at grade level—the single greatest predictor of a child’s success in school and life. 100% of gifts go to impacting lives—as United Way of Delaware County’s overhead is fully covered by grants. Every gift helps, no matter how small.

You can change lives forever!

Muncie and Delaware County Schools know the importance of reading and how crucial it is for students to make the transition in third grade—from learning to read to reading to learn. Schools are participating in Day of Giving by collecting spare change to change lives. Participating schools include East Washington Elementary School, Grissom Elementary School, West View Elementary School, Southside Middle School, Muncie Central High School, Burris Laboratory School, Pleasant View Elementary School, Yorktown Middle School, Yorktown High School, Cowan Elementary School, Cowan Jr./Sr. High School, and Selma Elementary School.

Hand & Fork and Epic Escape Game Muncie will donate a portion of their proceeds to benefit United Way of Delaware County on December 13th, 2018.

Local bars and restaurants are also getting involved with our #CoasterSelfies. Establishments will have Day of Giving coasters distributed with a special QR Code that lets patrons use their smart phones to connect directly to our Day of Giving web page to make donations. We are asking them to take a selfie with their coaster to spread the message to their friends and family so that everyone in Delaware County, and beyond, knows about our bold goal for reading. To take your #CoasterSelfie visit Twin Archer, Fickle Peach, 3 Wise Men, Scotty’s BrewHouse, Texas Roadhouse, BW3’s, Sunshine Cafe,, Applebee’s, The Mouse, Amazing Joe’s, Brothers Bar, Bevi Bistro, The Chug, Savages, Elm Street Brewing, The Guardian, Vera Mae’s Bistro, Valahalla, The Herot, Neely House, Big Shots Brew Pub and Books & Brews.
